Distance learning using computers (electronic learning or e-learning) has become a globally established practice. Following this trend, the Library and Information Center of the University of Macedonia (UOM) embarked on the development of online courses with the help of University Professors. The course content was based on material granted by the ICDL Foundation and pertains several applications of the OpenOffice.org suite, along with the Mozilla Firefox web browser, the Mozilla Thunderbird e-mail client and the Ubuntu Linux software usage.
