Experiences and conclusions drawn from the deployment of a virtualization platform for providing services of the National Documentation Center (NDC) are presented. This platform in entirely based on open source tools and software and it demonstrates the feasibility and the quantifiable benefits of such a production-grade installation. These include among others  energy and cooling requirements reduction, significantly increased flexibility and reduced procurement expenses.
